A narrative has a point. Usually, it revolves around some kind of life lesson or lessons of right and wrong.

A narrative/personal experience speech recounts an experience you’ve had and the significance you’ve attached to it. For your first speech assignment, you must prepare and present a narrative/personal experience speech of three to five minutes. Preparing the Speech Use the following steps to prepare your speech: 1. Select a goal for your speech. a. Brainstorm ideas of topics you know something about and which are important to you. For instance, if you have a special pet that has made life better for you, you could tell your audience about the things your pet has done. If a teacher in high school made an impression on you, you might want to talk about one or two specific things that teacher did. If you had a particularly fun job once, you could talk about some of the things that made it fun. Brainstorming should take about one hour. b. Determine what kind of audience you’ll speak to, how large it is, and what the occasion is. For example, if you’ve chosen to talk about your experiences with your pet, your audience could be members of a local Humane Society gathered to discuss increasing adoption of homeless pets. If you’ve chosen to talk about your experiences in science class, you could prepare for a speech before a group of high school students at a science fair, or for a group of teachers at an educational seminar. If you’re going to talk about a job you had once, your audience could be made up of people who still work for the company. Lesson 1 27 c. Develop a speech goal statement tailored to your audience. This is a single sentence saying what you want your audience to know, believe, or do. An example of a speech goal statement on an informative speech about animals could be, “I want people to know how much fun I’m having with my dog, Charlie.” For a goal related to a speech about your experience in history class, you might state, “I want people to know how my teacher inspired me,” or “I want teachers to know how to make the subject of history more interesting.” 2. Gather, evaluate, and prioritize information to use in your speech. a. Even though you already know something about the subject you’ve chosen for your speech, you’ll need to compile additional information. Read other materials and draw on others’ expertise. b. Once you’ve compiled enough information and you feel completely comfortable with the material or subject, determine which data seem legitimate, valid, or otherwise useful for your purpose. c. Decide which facts you absolutely want to impart to your audience. Set aside superfluous information. However, don’t forget it exists—you may find it valuable if anyone in your audience asks questions. 3. Organize your ideas by creating a well-structured outline. a. Identify three to five main ideas you want your audience to remember. b. Combine your speech goal statement with these ideas, and create a thesis statement. Writing your goal statement and thesis should take about one hour. c. Develop your main points. Take about two hours to develop them fully. d. Develop and outline the body of the speech. Choose an organizational style: chronologically forward (or backward) or some other fashion. e. Create an introduction that grabs the attention of the audience, establishes for the listener some relevance, and states your thesis. 28 Speech f. Create a conclusion that summarizes your goal and main points and gives the audience a sense of closure. g. Compile a list of sources (similar to a bibliography). 4. Choose and prepare presentation aids. a. Use aids if they help to clarify, emphasize, or dramatize what you’re going to say. b. Ensure that your aids use more than just words. c. Ensure that any visual aids are large enough to be seen by the audience. This specific size will be dependent on how large your audience will be. d. Ensure that any audio aids are easily heard. Audio/video aids shouldn’t be longer than 15 seconds for three minute speeches or 30 seconds for five minute speeches. e. Figure out how to incorporate the aids. Where will you introduce a slide? When will you change the slide? Will you keep the slide on the screen throughout the speech, or will you shut it off once you’ve spoken about the subject to which it applies. Take one or two hours to practice with your visual aids. 5. Practice your speech in front of friends or relatives. a. Practice until you feel your wording is accurate, clear, vivid, and appropriate. This process will be accomplished through adjustments you make almost every time you rehearse your speech. b. Practice until you believe your delivery is intelligible, conversational, and expressive. c. Practice integrating your presentation aids until you can do so confidently and smoothly. d. Continue practicing until you can deliver it within the time limit and without reading it. 6. Record the practice speech, and play it back to yourself. You should practice for about two hours before recording. Ask yourself the following questions: a. Are you in focus? b. Can you hear yourself clearly? c. Are you making eye contact? Lesson 1 29 Recording the Speech Once you’ve reached the point that you’re satisfied with your delivery, record the speech. 1. Begin the recording by reading the following sentence. (Fill in the blank as you read.) The audience I’m addressing for this speech is _______. 2. Pause for a few seconds (count to five in your head), and then begin your speech. 3. Watch the recorded speech. Ensure that it fulfills the requirements for the assignment. Reviewing the video and fixing any errors should take an hour.

The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for Largo Corporation is responsible for information technology (IT) that supports the company goals

Title Infrastructure Modernization Review 2. Introduction The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for Largo Corporation is responsible for information technology (IT) that supports the company goals. More specifically, the CTO plays a key role in defining the strategy and approach for effectively applying information technology to enable the goals and objectives of the organization to be carried out.

Largo Corporation is a multinational conglomerate corporation that serves a broad range of clients and their needs. Think in terms of a large company like General Electric which is involved in a wide range of businesses. Largo Corporation is a high energy organization in an extremely competitive environment that strives for high quality and timely delivery of products and services to its clients. Ms. Tara Johnson, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), is a driven leader who has high expectations on her managers and employees.

Ms. Johnson has been disappointed with the poor company performance last quarter. Her personal opinion is that the organization is underutilizing information technology (IT). She feels that there are state-of-the-art and emerging technologies that can be applied to the company that can immediately address current user issues and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of its operations.

She asked the CTO to form an IT modernization team to conduct an analysis to determine where the company’s current IT infrastructure is misaligned with the company’s business needs and to identify recommendations. In addition, the team must prepare a presentation describing a proposal to modernize the IT infrastructure and report to the CEO and other corporate executives.

It is common for organizations to have modernization projects. Reasons for these projects include a new set of business requirements being introduced, the emergence of new technologies that can be leveraged and past political and budget issues that have slowed down the infusion of technology into the organization over time.

You will learn about infrastructure components such as hardware; software; and networks and telecommunications. You will also learn how to evaluate these technologies to meet business requirements with consideration to the corporate mission and culture. In addition you will be developing communication, critical thinking, and leadership skills.

Understanding system capabilities provided by the infrastructure components and the application of this knowledge to enable an organization’s strategic goals and objectives to encompass core knowledge, skills, and abilities are a knowledge base that IT personnel are expected to possess. Effective IT professionals are expected to be up-to-date on trends in technology, current IT innovations, and which technologies will provide a competitive advantage for an organization. Most importantly, IT professionals must be able to communicate effectively (orally and written) to executive level management in a non-jargon, executive level manner that convincingly justifies the need to invest in IT improvements and modernization. This learning demonstration is designed to strengthen these essential knowledge, skills, and abilities needed by IT professionals.

3. Steps to Completion Your instructor will form the teams. Each member is expected to contribute to the team agreement which documents the members’ contact information and sets goals and expectations for the team. 1) Review the Setting Largo Corporation is a major multinational conglomerate corporation which specializes in a wide array of products and services. These products and services include healthcare, finance, retail, government services, and many more. The annual revenue is about $750 million and it has about 1,000 employees. The mission of the corporation is to bring the best products and services to people and businesses throughout the world so they can then realize their full potential. The corporate vision guides every aspect of their business to achieve sustainable, quality growth: • Productivity: Be a highly effective, lean and fast-moving organization. • People: Be a great place to work where people are inspired to achieve their maximum potential. • Partners: Nurture a winning network of customers and suppliers, together we create mutual, enduring value. • Responsible: Be a responsible citizen that makes a difference through ethical behavior. • Revenue: Maximize long-term return while being mindful of our overall responsibilities. The corporation consists of the parent company and the following subsidiaries: • Healthcare – Suburban Independent Clinic, Inc. (medical services) • Finance – Largo Capital (financial services) • Retail – Rustic Americana (arts and crafts), Super-Mart (office products) • Government Services – Government Security Consultants (information security) • Automotive – New Breed (electric cars) • Systems Integration – Solutions Delivery, Inc. (communications) • Media Design – Largo Media (website and app design) The organization is headed by CEO Tara Johnson who completed her Master’s degree at UMUC and eager to make worthwhile improvements to the corporation. She rose through the ranks of Largo Corporation starting with systems integration, then retail and her last position before becoming CEO was in finance. The corporation is in a highly competitive environment so the CEO wants savvy employees at many levels to make wise judgments and take an aggressive approach and deliver results towards improving the bottom line yet maintaining corporate social responsibility. 2) Gauging the Current Situation One area CEO Tara Johnson is most concerned about is the IT infrastructure of her company. Some of the subsidiaries of the corporation underperformed last quarter and she has the opinion that existing IT infrastructure contributed to the decline. Ms. Johnson set up interviews with various stakeholders both internal and external to the corporation to gain some insight into the IT concerns. They were asked “What is the most problematic issue facing you with regard to information technology.” These were the responses: “It was difficult to implement new government regulatory requirements due to outdated software systems.” (Chief Counsel, Largo Corporation) “Our computer workload varies greatly day to day and sometimes our network just cannot keep up the demand.” (Retail Operations Manager, Rustic Americana) “The organization was not able to properly analyze its data and get the information to make quality decisions quickly.” (Department Head, Largo Capital) “The networks are often slow and unreliable. It was built in the 1980’s!” (Web Designer, Largo Media) “It seems that our people who do field work could use IT to improve their operations.” (Communications Field Manager, Solutions Delivery, Inc.) “Each business unit could not exchange information easily with another business unit. For example, the financial personnel could not send budget information to the operation people without a lengthy period to convert and massage the data”. (Financial analyst, Largo Capital) “I am concerned that we do not encrypt our corporate wireless networks.” (Security specialist, Government Security Consultants) “Our employees are creating gigabytes and gigabytes of data. Our hard disks are running out of space!” (Call Center Manager, Rustic Americana) “We are getting virus and other malware all the time. What should we do?” (Operations analyst, Super-Mart) “I am worried about the possibility of privacy intrusions in our medical operations.” (Doctor, Suburban Independent Clinic) “Employees want to bring in their own personal devices but the network people won’t let them connect with our systems.” (Branch Manager, New Breed) “We business managers think that the IT personnel often fail to listen and understand our specific needs, always want to use cutting edge but unproven tools, do not ask the right questions and lack vision.” (Department Head, Largo Corporation) “As an IT professional, it seems to me that business people are unclear about their needs, constantly changing their requirements and do not understand the cost and time issues associated with technology implementation.” (Systems Developer, Largo Corporation) “Many of our younger employees see security as an interference and actually know how to successfully work around security protocols.” (Operational manager, Super-Mart) “When we call the Helpdesk for support, we never know how soon they will assist us. We have to do our jobs and have no idea what the priority is and when our issue will be addressed.” (Administrative Assistant, Largo Corporation) 3) Analyze the Issues Your work begins now. As the part of the IT modernization team, this step requires you to study and analyze these IT issues. As a first step you can group these issues into different categories such as software, hardware, networks/telecommunications, management issues, and others. In analyzing each issue, consider asking these questions: • Do I understand the meaning and nature of the issue? • Should we care about this issue? • What does literature say about this issue? • Who is affected by the issue? How so? • Which issues are most important? Least important? • How does this issue relate to corporate strategy and goals? • Why do you think this issue occurred? Do not jump the gun and identify solutions. That step comes later. Deliverable: Prepare a narrative and a summary table that would capture the results of your analysis in this step. Minimum length = 600 words. Be sure to state your assumptions. 4) Research Technologies and Technology Trends Investigate and evaluate the current and emerging technologies that have the potential of addressing the identified issues. Review your textbook, library resources and other peer-reviewed references. Evaluate the relevance of the following technology trends: cloud computing, virtualization, mobile computing, Big Data and other contemporary IT cross-functional approaches. Review and evaluate the relevancy of these trends to the current situation. Again, review your textbook, library resources and other peer-reviewed references. Deliverable: Provide a technical briefing that examines different relevant technologies and technology trends and include a short description of each. Also, explain why these technologies are applicable to Largo Corporation. Minimum length = 1,000 words. 5) Communicate the Overall Findings and Recommendations Provide a presentation that addresses a set of recommendations on the technologies and trends needed to address the current situation. A suggested agenda is as follows: • Purpose of the Briefing • Description of the Overall Environment • Analysis of the Issues • Relevant Technologies that Address the Issues including Rationale • Relevant Trends that Potentially Address the Issues including Rationale • Overall Recommendations • Conclusions The audience consists of the CEO and executives representing all of Largo Corporation subsidiaries. The presentation should consist of 15-20 slides. It should include audio narration (directions are found at: https://support.office.com/en-au/article/Add-narration-to-a-presentation-0b9502c6-5f6c-40ae-b1e7-e47d8741161c). The narration should also be captured in the slide notes. As an alternate method of delivery, you can create a video using YouTube Capture (https://www.youtube.com/capture) or a similar tool. Prepare a peer evaluation report. 4. Deliverables 1) Issue analysis table (from Step 3) 2) Technology briefing (from Step 4) 3) Final presentation (from Step 5) Create a folder to hold all of your deliverables. Title your files using this protocol: GroupNumber_G-1_AssignmentName_Date. Please zip (compress) the folder containing all of the files and the team leader is to submit the zipped file in the Assignments area. In lieu of submitting the presentation, the team leader may provide a link to the presentation file. NOTE: At the end of the project, each member of the team should email a completed Peer Evaluation form to your instructor. 5. Rubrics Criteria Weight Score

Technology has changed the way healthcare services are provided in this day and age. New tools and ways of doing things have been introduced enabling doctors to be more efficient when doing surgery. Doctors do not even need to be in the same locations as the patient to do surgery or prescribe medication. Knowledge from all over the world can be accessed with the touch of a button this has improved the provision of medical services tremendously. This has benefited many people all over the world and made healthcare delivery easier (Lamba, 2011).

Some of the equipment that has been brought about by technology advancement include; 3D echocardiogram and CT reconstruction. These two have made surgery more efficient by improving imaging capabilities which enable surgeons to operate without hindrances on the human body (Sabik, MD, 2014). Healthcare services have improved too, by the introduction of robotic surgery and teleconferencing. The latter has enabled doctors to provide knowledge and expertise far and wide irrespective of their physical location. They can monitor, track and communicate with their patients to help them keeping tabs on their ailments (Raza, et al., 2014). Robotic surgery helps doctors conduct surgery remotely with the use of a machine that can multitask and overcome some of the limitations a human doctor may have. This improves the likelihood of an operation to be successful which benefits both the physician and the patient.

Use of these new technologies is compulsory as not only have they made surgery more efficient but also tackled some challenges that were considered impossible in the past such as organ replacement and valve replacement in the aorta (Lamba, 2011). In addition to this technology has changed the way surgery is done by finding more effective and efficient ways of carrying out complicated procedures through extensive research. It is not a surprise that there are now less invasive operation procedures that enable doctors work and stitch you up in no time leaving no scars.

Hendricks Drew in his article talks about the software programs which assist in the diagnostic process of its tracking procedures. The technology has improved the patients past treatment records for easy diagnosis. He adds that the new technology still needs the qualified physician to perform quality healthcare. This publication is best dedicated to students, physicians, and scholars during the research and study programs in the medical field to enable them to perform certain procedures in their programs using the tools available.
“Mali, S. (2012) Nanotechnology for Surgeons. Indian Journal of Surgery, 75 (6), 485-492. This journal describes the importance of modern technology regarding nanotechnology. Mali in his journal explains that nanotechnology has aided in patient’s quick recovery, reduction of trauma and fear during surgery. The technology has also reduced the economic costs and the time wastage of treatment. He further reveals that the technology which is currently used for healing will also enhance human abilities (transcendence use). The journal is suitable for surgeons, patients, and students during research as it will enable them to plan treatment more precisely leading to the superior treatment execution plan.”
“Organ, C. H (2015) Impact of technology in surgery. Archives of Surgery, 140 (11), 102. Research methodology entails the new technology impacts on operation. Organ explains that the technology in the health sector has brought many changes in the surgical field. The progress includes renal dialysis, transplantation, heart surgery, computed tomography, pacemakers, linear accelerator, magnetic resonance, auto analyzers serum channel, studies of diagnostic radioisotope and minor invasive surgery. The journal can be dedicated to surgeons, scholars, and students carrying out research on technology use in the provision of objects useful for patient’s comfort and human sustenance.”

The word belief in this assignment is essentially synonymous with the word doctrine.

The goal of the assignment is to demonstrate that you are able to practice your chosen major/program of study in a manner consistent with a biblical/Christian worldview. For this assignment, you will write a 600–1,000-word essay addressing the following topic:

Foundational to the Christian faith is the belief that mankind is created in the image of God. Explain how this belief affects the way you interact with people within your chosen vocation.

Considerations for assignment:

  1. The word belief in this assignment is essentially synonymous with the word doctrine.

  2. Provide 2 or 3 specific examples of how the theological truth (mankind is created in the image of God) is lived out in a career in the Business administration field.

  3. Be sure to incorporate at least 2 theological references in your paper using course sources.

  4. Be sure to incorporate at least 3 relevant biblical references.

  5. The purpose of the assignment is not to discuss how you will evangelize within a chosen vocation; rather, the assignment must focus on how the understanding that mankind is created in the image of God effects the way your vocation is performed.

  6. Example from business: since mankind is created in the image of God, as an accountant, I should not cheat others out of money. (This example would be substantiated with biblical support, and be elaborated on within the essay.)

informal, voluntary agreements among individuals or groups of similar or complementary interests for the purposes of achieving objectives

Your reading assignment this week defines alliances as “informal, voluntary agreements among individuals or groups of similar or complementary interests for the purposes of achieving objectives.” When organizations form alliances for strategic purposes we call these relationships strategic alliances.

There are many advantages or benefits for joining an alliance. One of the reasons is to reduce uncertainty and share risk. However, risk is also one of the reasons that some organizations are hesitant to join an alliance. What types of things can go wrong with an alliance? What are the risks that are involved for the organizations? Is there some situation or circumstance where you feel alliances are very risky? What are some ways to overcome potential risks and problems with alliances?

Health Disparity and Structural Violence study, it made sense to me and rang true in what I encounter.

In reading the Health Disparity and Structural Violence study, it made sense to me and rang true in what I encounter. Fear and violence are the words that continued to jump out. Health is a fundamental human right and yet the disparities remain. This points out how violence is entrenched in people’s everyday lives as disparity, mainly health disparity, even going as far as “who will live, and who will die”. The structural violence framework covered 3 areas:
1. Cost
2. Language, discrimination, and immigration status
3. Cultural disconnect
People without health insurance will often wait to go to the doctor’s office or don’t go at all. Their problems go untreated and undiagnosed which then it becomes more acute and ironically more expensive. People put their children first, providing the bread, milk, eggs, roof over their heads first. Illness may kill them, however, not today. Today they need to worry about requirements for human survival. The fear of disease itself is not the fear but it’s the cost of disease bringing stress and “debilitating fear”. This is not felt by those that can afford insurance.
Those that speak another language, mainly Spanish, felt like they were discriminated against, starting from the receptionist, this being implied disapproval. Many Hispanic people felt like they were a burden or felt ashamed because they did not speak English. “You’re in America now, speak English”. How many times have you heard someone say that. The fear of feeling stupid, less than, keeps them from asking questions. It keeps them from even going to the doctor in the first place. Fear of being illegal is ever present. Illegal implies bad. Deportation is an ever-present fear. Living in this fear is described as debilitating fear.
There is a cultural disconnect on the part of the provider. When patients utilize traditional remedies, they may not want to share this with the health care provider. Medicines interact with herbs, this can be dangerous. Ethnocentrism creates a stigma for those who have a world view. Something the person sees as value may be perceived as wrong, silly, or irrational. Voodoo medicine. This approach under appreciates diverse cultures (Page-Reeves et al., 2013).
People every day are being framed by fear, that fear that wakes you up in the wee hours of the morning. This makes me sad because it is so true. I had a patient that had planned a home delivery but it didn’t work out for her so she ended up with us. She wanted to save her placenta for encapsulating, the physician wanted it sent to pathology. In the end, she got to take it home with her because of her cultural beliefs and wishes. In another study that explored promotion of healthy choices and cost effective accessibility. It concluded that nurses need a new vision of the future of global health and present economic situations (Jadelhack, 2012, p. 68). We are the agents of change.

You have learned about the different aspects of memory in the previous modules. Language is critical not only to communicate with others but also to memory. Many memories are encoded using language. Memory is much more rudimentary when language skills are not present.
Research some of the general characteristics of language and the concept of speech acquisition in infants using your textbook, the Internet, and the Argosy University online library resources before responding to these questions:
Researchers describe language as having six different properties. Describe the six properties. Which two properties do you think are the most important? Explain your answers with reasons.
Jim and Sue just had a baby, and they are interested in learning more about the process of language acquisition. They have heard about the controversy surrounding the view that speech is special. Do you think speech is special or is it processed like other auditory stimuli? Explain your answer with reasons.
Several African languages use clicks as consonants. Jim and Sue, who are English speaking, cannot hear the difference between the different types of clicks and have a difficult time learning one of these languages. If they were to move to Africa when their baby is about one-year old, do you think the baby would be able to hear the difference? Why or why not? Do you think she would hear the difference if they moved to Africa after her tenth birthday? Give reasons for your answers.

4 Is the American dream still alive and well?

4 Is the American dream still alive and well? Many people come here with the idea they can become something more and better in life. That they can make money and become rich but the fact is that many Americans are struggling to stay alive and live well. Budgeting for Success is a concern because Americans expend more then what they can afford. Last year, poor families in the U.S. those in the bottom 30 percent of the income scale spent on average almost twice as much money as they brought in., and They also spent a higher portion of their incomes on housing, transportation and food than did middle-class and rich families. It is, as the saying goes, expensive to be poor.
Americans expend more then what they can afford. (Ravenscraft, 2015) Last year, poor families in the U.S. those in the bottom 30 percent of the income scale spent on average almost twice as much money as they brought in. (Federal Reserve Board, 2016) They also spent a higher portion of their incomes on housing, transportation and food than did middle-class and rich families. It is, as the saying goes, expensive to be poor. (Smith, McArdle, & Willis, 2010) In conclusion, the more we make people aware of their finances and how to managed it the better it will be for them and us to come out on top. We need to teach teenagers and adults alike to become more financially stable in for them to know what to do and not do in case of financial struggles.
