This is a media with culture and identity module. Essay Question: "Do we live in a post-class society? Consider this question in the light of any aspect of media coverage and debate about class politics." Here is the set reading of the topic: Week 6 (AB) What is social class and are we living in a post-class society?
This week will begin to explore this question through a comparison of Engel’s The Condition of the Working Class in England with the documentary film The Condition of the Working Class (2012 O’Neil and Wayne UK).

Part 2 : What is social class and are we living in a post-class society?

Despite the frequent assertions that class identifications are no longer relevant classed labels continue to be deployed or even re-claimed by individuals,
social groups and in the media. At the very least it could be argued that class continues to be a powerful if fluid label with which to categorise
failing or succeeding citizens in an increasingly competitive culture. This week we will continue to debate the pertinence of speaking about class
and social distinction in the current moment through an examination of labelling and media judgement.
