Three Current Events Response Papers require students to apply their understanding of economic theory to real-world events and provide an opportunity to study the impacts of politics, social context and government policy on the economy. To complete these short assignments you are required to:
Find a recent (not more than 2 months old) newspaper, journal or magazine article on a microeconomic subject. Be sure to link to your article.
Summarize the article in 1-2 paragraphs.
Explain the economic significance of your article: why is the topic interesting and/or important, particularly in terms of the material we are studying in class. This section should be at least 2-3 paragraphs and should reflect your understanding of the course material.
Write a short 1-2 paragraphs about your own opinion of the topic – if the article is about a specific tax, for example, do you support the tax, and if so, why (or why don’t you support the tax…)
