Final Project
One of the recurring themes in college athletics today involves NCAA violations. For your Final Paper, please perform one case study on a university that has experienced NCAA or NAIA sanctions in the past 10 years. The violation can be sport specific (e.g., football) or it can be system wide violations (recruiting, boosters spending money on athletes, academic fraud, etc.). Your Final Paper should be 15-20 pages in length plus the annotated bibliography, double-spaced, with proper citation in APA format. Items to be addressed:
Identify the university and provide the mission statement of the university in the opening paragraph
Describe the nature of the violations and the team(s) involved
Identify the specific rules violated
The approximate number of athletes and/or coaches/administrators involved
Identify the sanctions imposed and by which governing body
Were any state or federal laws violated?
Did the university self-report the violations or were they discovered via an external investigation?
What ethical issues are presented and how did the university fail to properly address them?
Does the university you selected have a religious affiliation? In either case, do you believe religious affiliation would have impacted this particular scenario?
Was this a case of a few bad actors or a systemic problem?
Have any measures been taken since the violation by the university to prevent further violations?
How does the violation contradict the mission statement of the university?
If you were an administrator or coach at the university, how would you have handled the situation differently?
Support your statements with evidence from the Required Studies and your research. Cite and reference your sources in APA style.
