The purpose of the Final Paper is for you to culminate the learning achieved in the course by integrating the course material into a study that considers social causes and consequences of a social problem.



The final assignment for this course is a Final Paper. The purpose of the Final Paper is for you to culminate the learning achieved in the course by integrating the course material into a study that considers social causes and consequences of a social problem. After identifying a social problem to explore, you will discuss two factors that contribute to your chosen social problem and two consequences of that problem. You also will select appropriate methods to study this problem.

Focus of the Final Paper Over the course of this class, you completed a series of steps that prepared you to write the final paper. In Week Two you selected and explored a social problem. In Week Three you developed the social problem into a thesis statement and wrote an outline that provided specific support for the thesis. This week you will bring your efforts together to write your Final Paper by articulating an argument that describes the relationship between the factors that contribute to your social problem, the problem itself, and the social consequences of the problem. In addition, you will also describe a research method appropriate to investigating the social problem.

Writing the Final Paper The Final Paper must

Be five to six double-spaced pages (not including title page and references pages). Be formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. Use a minimum of six scholarly and/or peer-reviewed sources from the Ashford Library. The Scholarly, Peer Reviewed, and Other Credible Sources table offers additional guidance on appropriate source types. If you have questions about whether a specific source is appropriate for this assignment, please contact your instructor. Your instructor has the final say about the appropriateness of a specific source for a particular assignment. Document all sources in-text according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. Include a separate reference page formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. Incorporate feedback provided by your instructor. Apply analytical skills featured throughout the course. Employ social science concepts to support your thesis. Demonstrate critical thinking skills. Title page Title of Paper Student’s name Course name and number Instructor’s name Date submitted

Introduction (one paragraph) Introduce the social problem. Explain why it is interesting to you. State the social problem in a clear thesis statement.

Social Factors that Contribute to the Problem (two paragraphs; one for each factor) Identify two specific social factors that Are social in nature. Exist within society and cannot be attributed to any one individual. Explain how each factor directly contributes to the social problem by Clearly explaining the connection between a given factor and the problem. Supporting your claims with social trends, statistics, theoretical concepts, and evidence found within your scholarly resources.

Consequences of the Social Problem for Society (two paragraphs; one for each factor) Identify two distinct consequences that Affect individuals, social organization and social functioning. Are local, national, or international in scope. Explain how each consequence affects social systems and individuals. Explain how each contributory factor relates to each consequence.

Research Method (three paragraphs) Identify the most appropriate research method for studying your selected social problem. Choose one social science discipline (anthropology, sociology, political science, or history). Choose one research method (experiment, survey, field research). Use the Social Science Research Guide to explore and identify research methods. Explain how a researcher in the social science discipline you selected would apply this method to study the problem you have identified. Explain why the research method you selected is the best choice for studying the problem from the perspective of the discipline you have chosen. Briefly describe how you would apply the method to study the problem (one paragraph).

Conclusion (one paragraph) Sum up the primary points of paper. Restate your thesis.
